Götze 1 – Higuain 0: Germany 2014 World Cup Champion

The World Cup is over. Germany are the 2014 FIFA World Cup Champions courtesy of a fantastic goal by Mario Goetze who crucified Romero with a fantastic volley that destroyed the hope of the fans of Argentina throughout the world. It was a fantastic World Cup that started with Brazil beating Croatia and ended with Germany beating Argentina 1-0.

Concerning the World Cup Final, it was an excellent final with two giants in the world of football. Those two giants are Argentina and Germany. We have to congratulate the players of both national teams for giving us their best during the 120 minutes of play. At the end, Germany was a worthy winner since they were the most consistent team in the tournament. However, in the finals, Argentina played extremely well and completely shut down the German machine that destroyed Brazil 7-1 in the semi-finals.

As an avid fan of Argentina since 1978, I have the utmost respect for Germany. The Germans have always given 100% in their games. I think yesterday, they won a tough battle against the Argentines. The game was very tactical and at some point it was quite open. The Germans were exposed in the beginning minutes of the game. The Argentines shut down the German submarine and should have been up 1-0 had Higuain been able to take advantage of this gift given to him on a silver plate. It was a battle between those two giants. At times, it became bloody and was full of hard fouls. Argentina had some clear opportunities via Higuain, Messi, and Palacio to bury the Germans but they were unable to do so and therefore they paid a heavy price for their missed chances.

On the other hand, Germany had their chances as well. They had a header that hit the post and that could have given them the lead at the end of the first half. They had other opportunities where Romero, the goalie of Argentina, was able to stop. Mueller, Schweinsteiger, Hummels, Goetze, and all their teams deserved to be congratulated for playing an excellent tournament and this time one can say that the best team in Brazil 2014 has won the World Cup under extreme duress. I think the gods of football were with Germany. The simple reason is that, Messi rarely missed the opportunity he missed against Germany. It will be hard for some fans to forgive Higuain because a top striker like Higuain should have buried this easy ball in the bottom of the net of Germans. In the past, I have always said, Higuain will miss 5 before scoring 1. He has proven me right again. Higuain and Benzema should be paired together since they seemed to miss quite a few before they can score one.

Messi(ah)

I have always appreciated Messi. He is the best of the world. But I must say he is not Maradona. In all fairness to Messi, he has brought Argentina to the final phase and the Argentines strikers (Higuain, Kun Aguero, Rodrigo Palacio, and Lavezzi) only scored 1 goal were inefficient in this World Cup and that has cost Argentina a World Cup trophy. However, I think Messi should have not received the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. Messi did not rise to the occasion. He did not do much to win it. He was passive. I would have given it to Mueller.

Coaches:

In terms of coaching, the Argentine coach, Sabella, brought Aguero for Lavezzi. This did not make any sense to me. Lavezzi was Argentina’s best player in the first half. Aguero did not do anything in this World Cup, he was injured in the first game and he should have never played in that game. His grade was 1/10. I gave him 1/10 just for being there. Not picking up Tevez came to bite Argentina. Bringing Palacio was another mistake, he could not do much and he missed a clear opportunity to put Argentina 1-0 in overtime. On the other hand, the German coach, brought Goetze who won the game for Germany. In other words, Goetze has shown Palacio how to chest down a ball.

Referees:

The referees were very mediocre in this World Cup. I was hoping there was not going to be another Codesal in this World Cup. Nicola Rizolli should have awarded a penalty kick to Argentina and ejected Neuer, the German Keeper. He should have ejected Aguero in the game as well.

FIFA:

FIFA should have not been awarded the Ballon d’Or to Messi. A European referee should have not directed a final between European team and South American team. Another referee from another continent should have done it. Colombia earned the FIFA Fair Play Award. Neymar was injured during the Colombia vs Brazil game.

Tribute:

First, it is important to thank the Brazilians who have welcomed the world in their country. It was a fantastic World Cup in Brazil. I know they have suffered in this World Cup but Brazil will be back strong. We would like to thank all the countries who have participated in this World Cup for bringing us so much joy during those 32 days.

We thank the CONCACAF for stepping it up to the extreme highest level. Mexico, Costa Rica and the United States have represented their zone extremely well. For Costa Rica, it was quite an amazing ride and won a group with Italy, England, and Uruguay. The Ticos played a fantastic World Cup and have lost in penalty kicks against Holland. The United States have brought joy to many soccer fans in the USA. The team has done extremely well. Mexico did a great World Cup as well and came close to eliminate Holland. Though Honduras lost all their games, they did compete.

We have to appreciate the work of Ghana and Algeria who attacked Germany with great determination. They came extremely closed to derail the German machine. Ghana was the only country Germany did not beat in this World Cup. We have to thank Australia who have played a magnificent game against Holland.

To all the national teams, thank you for everything that you have given to the fans of the round ball.

Finally, we would like thank the editor, the staff of PWC, and our readers and we hope to join you again in Russia 2018. For me, I thank you all and I pray God for all us and for His protection upon us so that we can be there in Russia 2018.

Congratulations to Germany! Job Well Done! See you in Russia 2018!
