The prefecture office
location in the central Shizuoka District is famous for being the center of the political culture
of the District. It has railways, highways and is also famous for the development of
commerce and industry. There are about 2000 medium and small scaled factories of lacquer
ware and various wooden ware. There are also large factories producing electric and
cosmetic products. The square measurement is 1,146km2. The Shizuoka District is called
the 'Mecca of Japanese Soccer', 9(40%) out of the 22 Japanese representative players who
participated in the '98 France World Cup where from the Shizuoka District. There are
1,377 teams composed of 47,600 people from elementary school students to members of
society.
Now under construction, Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa will be completed in 2001, to fit in well
with its natural surroundings and to promote sports among the citizens of Shizuoka. There are
5,500 mobile seats installed on the field tracks. It is located in an area of gentle hills in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture. The exterior of
Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa is designed to incorporate the image of the beautiful nearby
Ogasayama Mountains and the design reflects a variety of environment-friendly features. It is
located within ten minute-walk from a new JR Tokaido Line station, which provides an easy
access.
