The South Gyeongsang Province, where Ulsan is located, contains some of Korea's most spectacular scenes along the country's southeast coastline, especially inside the Hallyeo Haesang National Park. With Busan (the country's major port and second largest city) and Geoje Island (Korea's 4th largest island and home to some of the country's biggest shipbuilding sites), the area has a high level of development and industrialization to complement its rich tourism industry. Due to its location, much of the area escaped the ravages from the Korean War, although many refugees escaped to the area and ended up settling here, especially in Busan. Being the closest part of Korea to Japan, the region also has a long history of Japanese influence. Even today, the area is the first to import the latest Japanese pop culture and fads. Maintaining the reservoir's water quality and preserving its basin at the highest standard in compliance with the FIFA World Cup spirit of natural environment preservation (A stadium as the very expression of clean, environment - ecology - minded city of Ulsan, which is a major industrial city).
